Policyholder-side appraisal

When you and your insurer can't agree on the amount of your loss.

Appraisal is the process many property policies provide for settling a disagreement over how much a covered loss is worth. Atlas Asset Solutions serves as your appraiser, working for the property owner, not the insurance company.

How the appraisal process works

Appraisal settles disputes about the amount of a loss. It is usually faster and less costly than litigation. Every policy is different, so the exact steps depend on the appraisal clause in your policy.

1

Appraisal is requested

When negotiation has stalled, either side may make a written demand for appraisal under the policy's appraisal clause.

2

Each side names an appraiser

You choose your appraiser and the insurer chooses theirs. The two appraisers review the damage, the scope and the pricing, and try to agree on the amount of loss.

3

An umpire resolves the rest

Items the appraisers can't agree on go to a neutral umpire. An award signed by any two of the three typically sets the amount of loss.

Appraisal decides how much a loss is worth. It generally does not decide whether a loss is covered. Talk to an attorney about coverage or legal questions.

What we do for property owners

From the first call to the signed award, we handle the appraisal work so you can get back to rebuilding.

Policyholder's appraiser

We serve as the appraiser you appoint, presenting and supporting a well-documented amount of loss on your behalf.

Scope and estimate review

We inspect the property and review the insurer's estimate line by line: missed damage, incomplete scope, and pricing that doesn't reflect the real cost to repair.

Organized, on-schedule case handling

Documents, photos, deadlines and correspondence are tracked in one secure system, with a private portal for clients to upload what we need.
